Coraline Movie DVD Details
64Coraline DVD Details Released
I guess since my other hub is about Coraline that anyone reading this will guess that I'm a Coraline fan. By Coraline, I'm talking about the stop motion animated movie by Laika. From a screenplay written by Henry Selick after a book written by Neil Gaiman (yay!) I'm including a list of the cast in a text box, below.
There will be 3 different movie DVD sets available. They will be released July 21, 2009. For the folks who are real fans, and those with the deeper pockets, there will be a deluxe Blu-Ray HiDef + standard DVD set. THe next one down is being called the "Collectors Edition". The "Collectors Edition" Coraline DVD will be a 2 disk set. Last, for you people on a budget, there will be a single DVD version of Coraline.
All the Coraline DVDs will have a Three-Dee Version.
In addition to a regular version of the movie on the DVDs, the Coraline DVDs will have a 3D version. Before you get too excited, it should be noted that this isn't going to be the fancy kind of 3D you can get in a theater. From my understanding, it is going to be a lot like the kind that you wear the red and green glasses to watch. They call that anaglyphic (here's a wiki page on anaglyphic 3D). Apparently, a standard TV set isn't equipped to do the kind of 3D they can do in theaters, which uses polarized lenses somehow.
Did I mention that all the DVD cases will come with 4 pairs of 3D glasses? That's pretty cool, unless you have a lot of kids. :P
Features on the Coraline DVDs
Single Disk DVD: As you would figure, the basic edition of Coraline has a copy of the movie, and also has feature commentary with Henry Selick and Composer Bruno Coulais. Also, they will have a "Synopsis". Which we all know will be a boring written out page that nobody is going to look at any longer than 30 seconds.
Double-Disk "Collectors Edition" Coraline DVD: Good News! This DVD will have all the feaures on the Single Disk DVD plus Deleted Scenes, two mini-features, and a Digital Copy of Coraline. The two features are: "The Making of Coraline" - Obviously about the making of Coraline and animation. and: "Voicing the Characters" - Here the cast and people who worked on the movie talk about doing voice-acting. So about how they got into character and the usual bragging about how cool it is to be an actor.
Hi-Def Blue-Ray DVD Bonus Features: This DVD has all of the features found on the other two sets (naturally) and also some other features. These are: U-Control on 2D Feature, "Creepy Coraline", and something called "BD Live". The BD Live is a feature that works if your Blu-Ray DVD player is connected to the Internet and lets you share things like your favorite scenes with other users. The "Creepy Coraline" sounds like is it another featurette about the making of the movie Coral
I don't know about you, but I think unless you have a Blu-Ray player (or plan to get one soon), I don't think it really makes sense to get the Blu-Ray version of this DVD. One thing's for sure, I'm going to pre-order mine soon. Here is a page with more details about the Coraline DVD. Here are Coraline DVD details on the Unversal Pictures site.
